Beef Bourguignon on the First Day of Fall

I woke up September 23rd with a hankering to spend the day in the kitchen. I made my rounds to the bakery and grocer, purchased my wares and spent roughly the hours of 3:30 to 8:30 sequestered in the kitchen making beef beef bourguignon a la Julia Child. We let Clara stay up late to enjoy our fancy dinner and drink out of a "special glass". The whole endeavor made me exceedingly happy. It wasn't until later that night in bed that I realized it was the first day of fall and thought, of course. There's nothing like fall to send me straight to the kitchen.
